About
The Rome Prize, awarded by the American Academy in Rome, supports innovative and cross-disciplinary work in the arts and humanities. Each year, approximately thirty artists and scholars receive the prize, which includes a stipend, private living space, and a private workspace. Winners are also invited to participate in the Rome Sustainable Food Project, providing meals at no cost. Half-term fellowships offer a $16,000 stipend, while full-term fellowships provide $30,000. The program also offers an Environmental Arts & Humanities Rome Prize for collaborative efforts between artists and scholars, with each winner receiving a full stipend and individual living space, sharing a workspace. Applicants must be US citizens for most fellowships, with exceptions for the Environmental Arts and Humanities and specific postdoctoral fellowships, which are open to US citizens and foreign nationals residing in the US for three years prior to application. Graduate students must be ABD, and undergraduate students or previous winners are ineligible.
