About
The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts offers two-week residencies for ceramists, mixed media artists, painters, printmakers (excluding etchers), and sculptors from April through October. The mission is to promote visual arts and education through cultural exchanges. The studio space provides a sanctuary for artists to explore, reflect, and dialogue within a unique community, inspired by the flora, fauna, and citizens of Skopelos. Residents are asked to cordially engage with occasional tourists visiting the studio and to share a 5-10 minute presentation about their work. The residency fees vary by discipline, ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 for a two-week period, and do not include housing. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required upon approval. The application process involves submitting a residency proposal, one character reference, and 6-10 images of current work via Slideroom. The foundation provides some supplies, such as cleaners and thinners for painters, and includes two shared firings for ceramists. Printmakers receive some inks and mediums, but must provide paper, linoleum, copper, or wood. The ceramics studio is not equipped for high-fire ceramics or mass production, focusing instead on sparking new ideas and shifting artistic direction. Artists are responsible for transporting their work home, with specific shipping restrictions for US residents.
