About
The Historians of Islamic Art Association (HIAA) invites proposals for its Biennial Symposium, focusing on "Technologies of Making and Knowing." The symposium will explore how technology, both historical and contemporary, has influenced artistic production, circulation, reception, and study in the Islamic world. Topics may include artisanry, embodied knowledge, scientific tools, digital art history, cultural heritage preservation, and institutional structures. The event will be hosted jointly at Getty, LACMA, and UCLA, and will consider both in-person and remote contributions.
