About
The Sten Malmquist Grant is an international artist-in-residence program in Tomelilla, Sweden, awarded biennially. It provides professional artists with 4–6 weeks to develop their work, focusing on location-based artistic practice in south-east Skåne. The grant includes a return economy class journey, local transport, B&B accommodation, a workspace/studio, Wi-Fi, and cultural facilities, with production costs agreed upon. Artists are expected to interact with the local community through workshops, lectures, and public participation, and to present their artistic work publicly. Eligibility is open to professional artists of non-Swedish nationality working primarily outside Sweden, in disciplines such as visual arts, sculpture, textile, film, video, installation, or performance. The application period for the spring 2027 residency is from February 1st to April 30th, 2026. Applicants must submit a biography/CV, documented experience, and a project description. The grant honors Sten Malmquist's legacy and his support for artistic exchange.
