About
The Kyoto Retreat, founded by independent curator Dexter Wimberly, offers artists, curators, and writers a four-week residency in Kyoto, Japan, for research, exploration, and inspiration. Selected participants will receive a roundtrip flight, private accommodation, and an $800 USD stipend for meals and local transportation. The program welcomes applicants at all career stages working across various disciplines, including visual arts, film, writing, and interdisciplinary practices. Applicants must be over 21 years old. The 2026 retreat will take place from November 1–30.
