About
Phileas—The Austrian Office for Contemporary Art invites museums, biennials, and art institutions to apply for grants to support international projects featuring Austrian and Austria-based artists in 2027. Over the past decade, Phileas has funded 154 projects globally, facilitating the production of over 270 new artworks. Eligible applicants are non-profit art organizations located outside of Austria, proposing projects that will open in 2027 and showcase the work of an Austrian or Austria-based artist. Phileas aims to strengthen the international presence of Austrian artists, curators, galleries, and institutions through long-term partnerships, enabling the production and exhibition of new artworks and their donation to public collections. The organization also runs a Visitor Programme, inviting international curators and critics to Austria, and supports art writing through workshops and publications. Phileas is funded by private members and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, with additional support from the City of Vienna.
