About
The Kirpilä Art Collection, supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, is seeking a curator or curatorial collective to plan and implement the Spring Salon 2027. This contemporary art exhibition and/or performance project will open in May 2027 and engage in dialogue with the museum’s permanent collection, salon-style hanging, and cultural-historical context. The theme for the 2027 salon is "On the Romantic," exploring emotion, imagination, and subjective experience in contemporary art. The chosen curator will receive a production budget of EUR 20,000, which includes their fee, and will be responsible for the artistic design, artist selection, and overall content in collaboration with the Kirpilä Art Collection staff. The Kirpilä Art Collection will cover basic production costs like hanging, dismantling, communications, and marketing. Applicants should submit a presentation and CV, an exhibition plan, a preliminary artist list, a description of working practices, a schedule, a cost structure, and a link to previous work. Applications are assessed based on curatorial quality, originality, feasibility, artist selection relevancy, and audience engagement. The call is open from April 13 to June 8, 2026, with the final selection made by August 31, 2026. The Kirpilä Art Collection is located in a 350 m² former residential apartment in Helsinki, Finland, and is not fully accessible.
