About
The Hayama Artist Residency offers a 4-week program in June 2027, aiming to introduce visual artists from around the world to Japanese culture and provide them with an opportunity for their first gallery exhibition in Japan. The residency takes place in a small, coastal Japanese town in Kanagawa Prefecture. Selected artists will receive a roundtrip flight to Narita or Haneda airport, shared accommodations for the duration of the residency (June 1-30, 2027), and an $800 USD stipend for meals and local transportation. The program is open to visual artists over 21 years old, working in any medium, from anywhere in the world. There is a $95.00 USD application fee for first-time applicants. Applications are reviewed by the director and a Selection Committee of international curators and arts professionals. The application deadline is September 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time, with notifications by December 15, 2026.
