## Description

The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA!) presents "Incising the Matrix: If Birdwood Block," an exhibition showcasing artist Jay Lau Ka-chun’s prints and installations. During his six-month residency at vA!, Lau drew inspiration from the history of Victoria Barracks, specifically the former married officers’ quarters, Cassels Block, and its adjacent 'twin' building, Birdwood Block. Using historical archives, images, image-editing software, and AI technology, Lau created a series of prints and installations that reimagine a parallel reality where Birdwood Block still exists. Highlights include the print series “Fictional Scenery” and “Reversed Scenery,” and the installation “Non-existent Rubble,” which fabricates a fragment resembling rubble from Birdwood Block.
